Imperfect by Discipline

ilaydatlas Story

My Vision

With a background in Visual Communication Design, my tattoo practice began in 2018 when I first picked up a tattoo machine. What started as a personal exploration has since developed into an international journey shaped by traveling, observation, and long-term practice, and is now based in Berlin. Over time, my work intersected with Asian art not as an aesthetic choice, but as a structured approach to form, discipline, and restraint. Through Asian ornamentation and the philosophy of wabi-sabi, my understanding of art shifted from the pursuit of perfection to the value of controlled imperfection formed through repetition, clean lines, and time. Although my work is often associated with Asian forms, my vision extends beyond tradition or surface aesthetics. I focus on large-scale compositions, intentional structure, and the belief that discipline allows imperfection to carry meaning, treating tattooing as an evolving practice where form is never fixed and change remains constant.
